Marquesas Blimes Staff Spotlight featuring her with assistive technology

Meet Marquesas Blimes, FAAST’s Assistive Technology Specialist

Marquesas Blimes is our go-to expert for assistive technology, video demonstrations, shipping, social media, public awareness, and so much more! Since joining FAAST in October 2021, Marquesas has expanded her role to include mentoring interns, building community partnerships, expanding rural outreach, and supporting grant research and writing.

When asked what she loves most about working at FAAST, Marquesas shared, “Leadership genuinely acknowledges our efforts, seeks to develop our strengths, and challenges us to improve our weaknesses. It’s rewarding to serve the disability community on a team that works hard and always has my back.” Her passion and energy shine through in everything she does, from leading technology trainings to supporting outreach across Florida’s rural communities.

Two events that especially fill her cup are SportsAbility and the Family Café. “I especially love being part of moments where assistive technology makes play and fun possible for children with disabilities. There’s nothing better than seeing their eyes light up with joy — and the smiles of parents seeing their children so happy.” These experiences fuel her commitment to making sure more families and individuals can access the assistive technology they need.

Marquesas’ passion for ADA history and disability rights began during her time working with a Center for Independent Living, where she developed a deep respect for the disability rights movement. “We have come far, but still have a long way to go. Assistive technology is a powerful force supporting people’s rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” She brings this advocacy spirit into her work every day, ensuring that technology not only supports independence but also strengthens the fight for equal access.

She believes that technology awareness means “more freedom, more choices, and bigger dreams for people with disabilities,” and is particularly excited about emerging innovations like Brain-Computer Interfaces, which she describes as a “total game-changer” for individuals with limited mobility.

Outside of her work with FAAST, Marquesas loves laughing with her husband and loved ones, watching her three boys grow into young men of faith, and spending as much time as possible outside in her flower garden—with a few naps and a lot of Dr. Pepper in between!
